Mission

Born out of necessity... fueled by passion ...  a small, but determined group of volunteers came together to save the lives of 5 animals from an Animal Services program that closed.  Their conviction beat the odds to become an organization whose mission is:

Guided by the principals that every life has value & is worthy of respect and protection, our mission is to care and protect animals in order to improve the quality of their lives, assist local advocates end animal homelessness and promote humane values through compassionate, quality care and education.

The Humane Society of West Florida is a limited access, no kill animal rescue. We do not have a facility...our animals are in boarding or in foster care. We do NOT euthanize our animals to make room for new ones - the dogs and cats in our care stay as long as needed until they find their forever home. We only humanely euthanize when a situation arises that an animal can no longer live a high quality of life, per our vets, due based on it's medical state.

Our animals come to us in a variety of ways and we love and care for them until we find another family for them to join. We also work to transfer animals from overcrowded shelters to save companion animals scheduled for euthanasia. We are only limited by our lack of funding.

Many of the animals come to us healthy, however we do take some animals in bad shape or seniors who require extensive medical treatment. These pets need our help the most but their care is expensive, even with local vets working with us to keep costs down.

We rely on people like you to help us to provide care for these animals, whether by making monetary or in kind donations, volunteering or being a foster parent. The Humane Society of West Florida is a 501c3 non-profit organization and does not receive any tax funding- we rely completely on private donations, corporate support, events and grants.
